Built as the Rose and Crown in 1741, it became the Coach and Horses in 1763. A coach house was added in 1785 as it became a staging post along the main Arundel coaching route. This later became the A27.


It would appear that Terry Spinx ran the Coach & Horse sometime in the early 1980's. Terry was Flyweight Gold-Medallist in the 1956 Olympics. Sadly he developed a drinking problem and the local authorities refused to renew his licence.
